Troquet by LM – a French Bar

I have to admit a slight bias towards Troquet by LM on the corner of  Wolcott and Montrose as it is my neighbourhood bar. It is primarily a French style bar, but it  does serve some good food as well. It is part of the LM family that includes LM Bistro  recently moving to 111 W Huron St. Chicago and also Brasserie by LM – 800 S. Michigan.

I have tried quite a few things off the menu and my favourite so far is the Pork Belly or as they call it Le P’tit Salé, this comes with some tasty hand cut fries and a salad. It is not easy to do good pork belly but this dish hits both spots with some nice crunchy meat that is still tender and the fat (which is the best bit of the belly) is not dry still tasty and has a subtle hint of flavours.

I have also tried the quiche which I like as well. A nice creamy filling and the pastry is still light, not heavy and not dry. Quiche is often not done that well in the bar food arena but at Troquet they have managed to produce a really good one.

I have some other favourites off the menu, or rather off the chalkboard, the main one being the charcuterie platter which  is a slate plate with several different meats and some nice crusty bread to go with it. I have tried to take picture of it on my phone but the lighting in the bar is quite subdued and they never come out that well. That is in contrast to the platter which always comes out well. So just to show you how nice that looks I borrowed the picture above off Foursquare. I dont really like posting other peoples photos, but until I get a good one of my own I would like you to at least see what you are getting.

Troquet is located at 1834 W Montrose Ave, on the corner of Montrose and Wolcott. It is about 3 minutes walk from the Montrose CTA Brown Line El station and on the 78 CTA bus route.
