Marmalade is a great breakfast, brunch, or lunch spot on the corner of Montrose and Damen, about 5 mins walk west of the Montrose brown line at 1969 W. Montrose Ave. The 50 and 78 buses stop right outside too.
The owner Gus is very welcoming and you can often see him out an about in the neighborhood where he greets you with a smile and a friendly greeting. Inside it is no different where he and his staff are attentive without being intrusive. The only sad thing is that the cafe is only open in the day until 3pm so for us workers it has to be on the weekend brunch circuit.
The brunch selection is not your typical choices, there are many specials on the boards but I had The ‘Shroom Benedict’ off the menu, which is Two poached eggs, sautéed spinach, roasted tomatoes on top of breaded Portobello within a bed of their house potatoes topped with a sundried tomato hollandaise. The potatoes are great even if there were too many for me (what? I know). The poached eggs were perfectly cooked and the egg runny when you cut into. There could have been more mushroom and I was not sure what the pineapple was for, but I could not really complain. I will definately be back
